Nai Swee Leng Singapore Painting and Calligraphy Artist

Swee Leng was born in Singapore in 1946.

Swee Leng has been passionate about painting since his childhood days and his passion led him to explore art, particularly fine arts with various respectable art teachers. In his foundational years at painting, Swee Leng benefited from the teaching of the late Mr Fan Chang Qian, a Wu-style artist renowned for his paintings of orchids and bamboo. The latter has great influence in shaping Swee Leng’s art career in the years that came.

After Swee Leng graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, he continued to learn and practiced under many eastern and western masters of great skills and techniques. Of significance, was his mentorship under the late Professor Chao Shao-An, a renowned Lingnan-style master based in HongKong.

Equipped with rich and concrete foundation, Swee Leng developed his individual unique style over the years. He is most widely known for his Chinese ink paintings with especially sturdy intriguing strokes and tranquil beautiful compositions. The tasteful depth, coupled with simplistic regal grace, embodies that traditional authenticity in Swee Leng’s Chinese artworks, which is highly commended by many around the world.

Swee Leng has held 12 Solo Exhibitions and many Group Exhibitions in Singapore and overseas, and has been recognized in the Asia art realm as a master in Chinese ink paintings of bamboo, birds and flowers.
